Founded in the 7th century, Al Balad is the historical area of Jeddah, it has been listed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 2014.
It used to serve as an ancient trading port and acted as the main entrance to the Holy City of Makkah for pilgrims embarking on their sacred pilgrimage for Hajj and Umrah. Nowadays, the city is renowned for its historic architecture and traditional buildings built with coral stone, adorned with exquisite wooden lattice windows.
